Bagoong - ba*goong n [Tagalog] HI A condiment made from fermented fish or shrimp. 1940 Bazore Hawaiian Foods 77 HI, But the most widely used fish product is a fermented salty fish paste called bagoong. It flavors pork; is added to vegetable dishes; is eaten raw. 1967 DARE (Qu. H50) Inf HI6, Bagoong [baga’un] . .slightly rotten small fish. 1972 Carr Da Kine Talk 104 HI, Bagoong, a hot sauce or paste, is as powerful as its name suggests. To prepare it, shrimp or small fish are mixed with salt and allowed to ferment for several days, after which they are pressed and the liquid is drained off.

“Would you eat bagoong if someone offered it to you?”

“Oh, you’re full of bagoong.”

“You could smell the bagoong from a block away.”
