A home-made brandy with a powerful ‘kick.’ 1924 Henderson Keys to Crookdom 289, The “jackass-brandy” hound will boil up anything from grapes to prunes. 1974 Dabney Mountain Spirits 107 (as of 1920s), “Jackass brandy,” made of peaches, created a stir in some sections of Virginia, causing intestinal pains and internal bleeding--all for a mere four dollars a quart.
